Job Description:
As a Public Health Nurse I with the Dept of State Health Services, you will play a vital role in promoting public health and preventing disease in our communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide public health nursing services to individuals, families, and communities, including assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health programs.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders, healthcare providers, and other agencies to establish and maintain partnerships that promote public health.
  • Participate in community assessments, identify health needs, and develop interventions using evidence-based strategies and best practices.
  • Develop and implement community health education programs and assist with community preparedness activities.
  • Represent the Dept of State Health Services on local coalitions, school health advisory boards, and other collaborations.
  • Apply epidemiological principles and methods to assess, prevent, and control disease to promote public health.

Requirements:
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of Texas or state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse License Compact.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
  • Ability to travel and work in a variety of locations, including rural counties.
  • Ability to meet employee immunization requirements and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BSN degree.
  • Experience working with community coalitions or performing other applicable public health population-based or clinical activities.

Working Conditions:
This is a temporary position that will end 11/30/2025. A temporary contract will need to be signed by the selected candidate. The position requires safe operation of a state-owned vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct state business and an acceptable driving record must be maintained in accordance with DSHS Policy OS-3901, Fleet Operations and Management & Procedures and standards developed by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
