Job Title: Histology Technician

We are seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team at Suncoast Drivers. As a Histology Technician, you will be responsible for performing histology and cytology procedures, including specimen processing, fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC and special stains, and case organization in accordance with department procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform histology and cytology procedures, including specimen processing, fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC and special stains, and case organization in accordance with department procedures.
  • Assure positive sample, block, and slide identification.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer and department procedures and per department schedule.
  • Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment, and procedures performed.
  • Utilize independent judgment and problem-solving skills to ensure the accuracy of procedures performed and proper equipment performance.
  • Troubleshoot and take appropriate corrective action to resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely manner for resolution.
Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of histology methods and correlation to disease processes.
  • Ability to follow protocols for the proper fixation and routine staining of samples.
  • Ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist.
  • Demonstrate good technique in the cutting, embedding, orientation, and staining of specimens.
  • General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, team work, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Effective and proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Education and Certification:
  • High School Diploma and minimum two years of histology experience or High School Diploma.
  • Completion of an accredited program in Histo-technology or Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology, and one year of histology experience or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry.
  • FL State License.
  • ASCP - HT.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
Work Schedule:

Days (40 hours per week) - No Weekends.

Salary:

$30.34/hr min - $42.47/hr max Based on years of experience.

Sign-On Bonus:

$5k.

Relocation:

Case by case; Upon request.
