Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electron Microscope Technician I to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine and advanced transmission electron microscope laboratory procedures related to the processing of specimens used for clinical purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare specimens for observation under an electron microscope using specialized techniques.
  • Maintain diamond knives and cut and trim tissue to microscope dimension using an ultramicrotome.
  • Perform specialized photographic techniques to capture and produce digital images.
  • Manage the digital archives of images and make images available electronically to users.
  • Perform staining techniques such as immunofluorescence and immunochemistry related to the processing of specimens for clinical purposes.
  • Maintain electron microscopes, including basic troubleshooting, and ancillary equipment such as ultramicrotome, cryostat, fume hood, and digital camera.
  • Assist manager with inventory control of chemicals and other supplies needed for diagnostic electron microscopy as well as immunofluorescence and immunochemistry techniques.
  • Maintain records and files of specimens prepared and photographed, and perform laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with quality control standards.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience, or licensed as a Histology Technologist, or certification by the Electron Microscopy Society of America.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a gross room or histology lab.
  • Experience with Epic or other LIS.
  • Certification by the Electron Microscopy Society of America.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) to maintain and operate TEM, fluorescent microscope, and related equipment.
  • KSAs to prepare TEM specimens for observation, observe and photograph TEM samples, interpret microscopy images, prepare digital plates for clinical purposes, use and train in use of digital camera, assist in authoring selected projects for publication, and assist in developing new or modifying preparation techniques.
