Job Title: Electron Microscope Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Electron Microscope Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining electron microscopes, preparing specimens for observation, and performing various laboratory tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain electron microscopes, including troubleshooting and performing routine maintenance tasks.
  • Prepare specimens for observation, including sectioning, staining, and mounting.
  • Perform various laboratory tasks, such as cassette printing, bottle identification, and case number designation.
  • Work with personnel from submitting accounts and couriers to resolve discrepancies and expedite cases.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as computer assistance with manuals, MSDS, and chemical inventory.
  • Dispose of tissue from completed surgical specimens and oversee inventory of the lab.
  • Maintain chemical and biohazard elements properly stored and disposed of.
  • Act as safety representative and monitor for department.
  • Clean laboratory equipment and spaces, including bench-tops and storage areas.
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience, or licensed as a Histology Technologist, or certification by the Electron Microscopy Society of America.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in a gross room or histology lab.
  • Experience with Epic or other LIS.
  • Certification by the Electron Microscopy Society of America.
  • KSA to maintain and operate TEM, fluorescent microscope, and related equipment.
  • KSA to prepare TEM specimens for observation.
  • KSA to observe and photograph TEM samples.
  • KSA to interpret microscopy images.
  • KSA to prepare digital plates for clinical purposes.
  • KSA to use and train in use of digital camera.
  • KSA to assist in authoring selected projects for publication.
  • KSA of cell anatomy.
  • KSA to assist in developing new or modifying preparation techniques.
  • KSA to develop data collection and presentation techniques.
  • KSA to statistically analyze and interpret data.
  • KSA to assist in organizing TEM methods.
