Principal Electrical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to provide advanced-level technical project oversight of utilities engineering projects and supervise lower-level utilities engineering staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provide complex technical guidance regarding high voltage electrical utility distribution, transmission, generation, and fiber optics to electric operations senior staff, contractors, and consultants.
- Supervise professional and technical utilities electrical engineering staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring staff are trained.
- Develop long-range plans to ensure the capacities and reliability of applicable utilities.
- Perform project management for major electric systems projects, including scope of work, budget, contract and code compliance, electric safety, staffing, and public relations.
- Perform advanced design engineering activities for electric projects, including fiber optics, street lights, traffic signals, and communication projects.
- Coordinate the design and installation of electric and telecommunication services with customers.
- Prepare working procedures and support for the division.
- Perform special utility studies and run system models related to the operation and maintenance of the electric system.
- Review, analyze, and modify electric engineering, equipment, and materials specifications and standards.
- Provide technical support and consulting for other internal departments related to electric engineering operational activities.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of the Division budget, including capital improvement program budgets.
- Analyze and make recommendations for revisions to the municipal code, Utility Rules and Regulations, and other applicable utility policy documents.
- Prepare a variety of complex reports related to electric engineering activities, operations, and projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent project management skills and significant experience in Capital Improvement Projects.
- Sufficient education, training, and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the necessary knowledge and skills.
- Valid California Driver's License.
- Registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of California.
