Position Overview
The Sales Engineer for Consumables is tasked with driving profitable sales of Makino's EDM Consumables while generating leads for EDM machine opportunities within the designated territory. This role involves nurturing existing relationships and cultivating new prospects through various outreach methods, including direct contact, inquiries, and marketing initiatives. The focus area for this position encompasses the Western NY region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain robust relationships with clients as the primary sales contact.
  • Conduct sales outreach and collaborate with Makino Sales Engineers to foster Consumable and Machine Sales partnerships.
  • Strategically organize and plan activities to maximize coverage of the assigned territory.
  • Schedule meetings with current and potential clients.
  • Identify lead opportunities for Makino machines by comprehensively understanding client needs and operations.
  • Provide detailed reports on sales opportunities to management and input data into CRM systems.
  • Engage with clients to discuss their requirements, specifications, and any ongoing issues.
  • Prepare and issue sales quotations with support from Consumable Support Associates.
  • Monitor overdue shipments and keep clients updated on any changes affecting delivery timelines.
  • Continuously assess consumable sales performance against forecasts and territory potential.
  • Contribute insights into the consumable forecasting process to assist the Consumables Operations Group in material procurement.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in interactions with clients and colleagues at all organizational levels.
Required Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and capability to travel to client locations for relationship building and product delivery.
  • Technical expertise in EDM Consumable products, with the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with clients.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office; familiarity with SalesLogix and SAP is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ambition and willingness to devise new sales strategies and explore new territories and clients.
  • A collaborative team player, capable of working closely with Makino Machines Sales Engineers and the Consumable Operations Groups to foster a cooperative environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and customer relationship management skills.
  • Willingness to travel regionally on a weekly basis.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in EDM Consumable sales.
  • Prior experience with EDM machine tools or EDM Consumables is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in developing sales territories and a proven ability to close sales.
