Job Description
The Surface Preparation Specialist plays a crucial role in the production of signage components, ensuring they are adequately prepared for the painting process or subsequent production stages. Our team is dedicated to crafting signs for well-known brands and custom projects, requiring adaptable team members who can work collaboratively on larger initiatives while also making independent decisions based on technical drawings and established industry practices.
Key Responsibilities

- Interpret technical specifications and drawings to ascertain painting requirements.
- Sand raw materials, such as steel or aluminum, in preparation for painting.
- Mask off areas that should remain unpainted.
- Apply primer to prepare items for the final paint application.
- Measure and mix paints to achieve specific color formulas, adhering to production specifications.
- Conduct routine maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
- Safely handle and transport materials and finished products within the production area.
- Complete tasks within designated production timelines and communicate any potential issues to supervisors proactively.
- Utilize company software to track time and materials used.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Follow protocols for the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Engage in team meetings and safety discussions.

Required Experience and Education:
- Experience with metal painting.
- Background in a production environment.
- Familiarity with preparing materials such as aluminum, steel, acrylic, and vinyl for painting.
- Proficiency in using hand sanders and power tools.
- Experience operating spray guns.
- Understanding of painting materials and techniques.
- Basic computer skills.
- Over 2 years of experience in a sign manufacturing setting.
