POSITION SUMMARY
Under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer, the Primary Care Physician is entrusted with delivering comprehensive healthcare services at Community Health Centers of the Central Coast, Inc. (CHC). This role encompasses a wide array of responsibilities aimed at ensuring optimal health outcomes for the patient population served.
CHC is committed to providing exceptional care, which relies on the collaborative efforts of the staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and a cooperative spirit while maintaining an organized and enthusiastic approach to their work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Physician will undertake various duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer, which may include but are not limited to:
- Collecting and assessing patient health histories, documenting findings accurately.
- Conducting thorough physical examinations to differentiate between normal and abnormal findings.
- Providing routine health assessments, diagnostic services, and treatment for various medical conditions.
- Upholding the highest standards of medical ethics consistently.
- Ensuring quality care for all patients.
- Participating in on-call duties with other medical staff as necessary.
- Gathering and recording comprehensive medical histories from patients.
- Evaluating patients to assess their overall health status.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and imaging to inform treatment decisions.
- Diagnosing medical conditions based on examination and test results.
- Administering or prescribing appropriate treatments and medications.
- Immunizing patients against communicable diseases.
- Providing guidance on diet, hygiene, and disease prevention methods.
- Reporting significant health events to relevant authorities.
- Referring patients to specialists for advanced care when necessary.
- Performing minor surgical procedures as required.
- Conducting physical exams for various purposes, including school admissions and insurance eligibility.
- Assisting in the development and evaluation of medical policies and educational programs.
- Collaborating with the Clinical Director in supervising nurse practitioners as needed.
- Adhering to established medical protocols and privileges.
- Participating in committees as requested by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Following safety policies and infection control regulations diligently.
- Demonstrating the ability to provide age-appropriate care across various patient demographics.
- Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Engaging in patient management while considering cultural diversity and local resources.
- Coordinating care by following up with patients post-discharge and assisting with appointments.
- Building relationships with high-risk patients to anticipate their needs and referring to nursing staff when necessary.
- Communicating effectively with all team members to advocate for patient needs and facilitate care.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives through data collection and analysis.
SUPERVISORY ROLE
May oversee mid-level providers under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a residency in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, or Pediatrics.
- Board Certification or eligibility in the relevant specialty.
- Ongoing education in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, or Pediatrics.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Ability to read and interpret complex documents, with effective communication skills in both English and Spanish preferred.
MATHEMATICAL ABILITY
Proficient in basic mathematical operations and data interpretation.
REASONING SKILLS
Strong understanding of family-centered medicine principles and ability to apply logical reasoning to diverse situations.
CERTIFICATIONS
Current and valid Physician and Surgeon license from the Medical Board of California, along with necessary certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The role requires regular use of hands, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds. Vision capabilities must include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Flexibility in work hours is essential, including potential evening and weekend shifts, as well as travel to various clinic locations as needed.
