Job Summary

This position plays a critical role in supporting the overall business operations of Varco. The Assistant General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of warehouse and business operations to ensure efficient and effective accounting and movement of goods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inventory Management: Develop and implement inventory management procedures, including cycle counts, order processing management, and inventory reconciliation processes to ensure accurate inventory levels.
  • Inventory Optimization: Increase inventory turns and liquidate dead or slow-moving stock to maximize storage capacity and reduce costs.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Prepare and distribute reports on key metrics to help make informed management decisions.
  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate, recommend, and implement support technology to improve operations and increase efficiency.
  • Shipping and Receiving: Manage shipping and receiving functions, including freight and logistics coordination, carrier selection, and tracking of orders to ensure timely shipping and delivery.
  • Team Management: Scheduling and overall supervision and coordination of associates and activities to ensure daily targets and quality standards are achieved.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate, recommend, and implement solutions that will improve operations and increase efficiency.
Quality Control and Safety
  • Quality Control Initiatives: Establish quality control initiatives to eliminate manufacturing defects and errors.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including certification of picker and forklift operations and the handling and storage of hazardous materials.
  • Safety Alert System: Alert management and take corrective action regarding critical or potentially critical safety issues.
Leadership and Development
  • Leadership Development: Manage all direct reports through regular feedback and goal setting for each of your functional areas of responsibility.
  • Staffing and Training: Identify staffing needs and hire personnel to achieve those needs within budget targets.
  • Training and Development: Implement an effective training program for all operational positions and roles.
  • Employee Development: Training, oversight, and evaluation of employees to ensure successful job performance.
  • Team Building: Cultivate team spirit and promote inter-departmental cooperation.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field or equivalent business experience.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills for multiple departments.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Communication Skills: Strong knowledge of inventory management systems and procedures, and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Warehouse Knowledge: All-encompassing warehouse knowledge, including experience operating warehouse equipment (forklift, picker, pallet jack, etc.).
  • Language Skills: Bi-lingual communications skills (English and Spanish).
  • Availability: Available for occasional travel.
  • Professional Development: Willingness to increase job knowledge through continuing education and support from industry experts and consultants.
