Konami Gaming is seeking a Lead Technical Artist to enhance our creative team.
This role is pivotal in merging artistic talent with technical skills, producing visually captivating content that enriches gameplay and presents unique experiences to a diverse audience. The Lead Technical Artist serves as a bridge between the technical and artistic teams, ensuring that high-quality artwork is seamlessly integrated into games while adhering to technical specifications regarding performance and overall game size. Collaborating closely with game development teams, the Lead Technical Artist aims to refine tools, workflows, and processes within a Unity-centric development framework. This position also involves mentoring artists who may be less familiar with Unity, helping them to optimize their art for the platform, and supporting fellow Technical Artists in enhancing their Unity proficiency. Autonomy and adherence to company policies and procedures are essential in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Integrate game assets while maintaining artistic integrity and adhering to technical constraints. Foster collaboration with artists and engineers to ensure effective asset implementation and build strong working relationships.
- Develop and sustain the art production pipeline by creating scripts and tools that empower artists to produce visually impressive work more efficiently.
- Prepare assets for game integration, ensuring fidelity to the artistic vision and compliance with technical limitations.
- Align asset creation with functional specifications and graphic proposals, focusing on enhancing game rules and flow through visual elements. Employ cost-effective techniques and tools to maximize effort.
- Create visual effects, including particles and shaders, for Unity applications.
- Proactively address challenges, communicate effectively, and provide guidance to team members as necessary.
- Engage in self-directed learning to stay updated with the latest Unity engine technologies.
- Assist in developing rapid prototypes for experimental features using Unity 3D.
- Refine Unity 3D scene implementations to meet product and creative requirements.
- Conduct analyses of Konami and competitor products from a player's perspective to identify industry trends, ensuring player considerations are integrated into art design. This includes:
- Participating in field research trips to casinos as needed. Conducting online research to familiarize with industry standards. Contributing to team discussions following research.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Graphics, Game Development, or a related field; equivalent experience is acceptable.
- Master's degree and relevant art certifications or awards are advantageous.
- 8+ years of relevant experience, including 4+ years collaborating with cross-functional teams to create multimedia-rich games, ideally in slots. 2+ years of experience in game production as an artist or engineer.
- 2+ years of experience developing and maintaining tools and writing scripts within the Unity environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, across all business levels.
- Ability to obtain and maintain necessary gaming licenses.
- Accountable for developing and maintaining art production workflows by creating scripts/tools that enhance artist efficiency.
- Experience in profiling and optimizing application performance is required. Strong problem-solving skills and guidance in developing slot titles from concept to launch are essential.
- Understanding of interactive game art standards, including UI/UX design.
- 2+ years of professional experience with C# and the Unity Engine. Familiarity with C++, C#, and Unity-based slot development is preferred. Proven experience in producing visual effects for Unity applications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of rendering fundamentals, including modeling, texturing, shading, rigging, animation, lighting, and rendering.
- Significant experience with the MS Office suite, particularly Excel.
- This position is primarily based in a smoke-free office environment with low to moderate noise levels. The workspace is shared with other cubicles and offices.
- Monthly field research trips to casinos and trade shows may be required. Candidates must be adaptable to varying noise and temperature levels, as well as crowds and air quality.
- Minimal travel is expected, approximately 0-10%, based on business needs. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license.
