POSITION: Community Engagement Organizer
JOB SUMMARY:
SEIU Local 284 is dedicated to representing the interests of school employees and higher education workers across Minnesota, encompassing around 10,000 dedicated individuals. As part of a larger movement, SEIU connects over 2 million members throughout the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, striving to enhance their livelihoods and the quality of services they deliver.

Position Type: Full-time, Salaried
Compensation: $69,023 - $72,494 annually (Experience in related fields is preferred)
Location: South St. Paul
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement effective strategies for organizing initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with workers, local staff, and members on various campaigns.
- Be prepared to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Travel may be required, including occasional overnight stays.
- Identify and develop potential leaders among workers to facilitate the organization of unrepresented workers.
Your Role Will Include:
- Establishing and leading organizing committees to support workers during campaigns.
- Conducting necessary tasks for organizing efforts, such as research, data management, and creating informational materials.
- Engaging with workers through various communication methods, including home visits and phone outreach.
- Strategically addressing employer opposition to unionization efforts.
- Filing necessary petitions with relevant agencies.
- Assessing and mobilizing workers effectively around key issues.
- Maintaining a commitment to educating workers about their rights and union activities.
- Encouraging worker participation in union events and advocacy efforts.
- Collaborating with community organizations to support contract and community initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Ability to connect with and organize diverse groups of workers.
- Strong judgment and prioritization skills in a dynamic work environment.
- Familiarity with labor rights and contract terminology, with a willingness to learn.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and weekends.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in maintaining organized work files and adhering to reporting requirements.
- Experience in union organizing or related fields is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, databases, and online research.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Two or more years of relevant organizing experience is preferred.
- A valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance are necessary.
