Position Overview:

The Cardiac Catheterization Specialist collaborates effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and other Cath Lab personnel to ensure optimal patient care and facilitate the safe execution of all Cath Lab procedures.

This role requires proficiency in sterile and aseptic techniques, as well as expertise in radiological equipment and supplies utilized within the Cath Lab environment.

The Specialist is accountable for supervising or delegating tasks to qualified personnel, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Adapts care approaches to meet the diverse needs of patients across various age groups, including:
  • Neonate (birth - 28 days)
  • Infant (29 days - less than 1 year)
  • Pediatric/Child (1 year - 12 years)
  • Adolescent (12 years - 18 years)
  • Adult (18 years - 65 years)
  • Geriatric (over 65 years)

Incorporates cultural considerations into care delivery, demonstrating knowledge of developmental stages and their impact on health beliefs and behaviors.

Ensures patient safety and involves family/caregivers in care decisions.


  • Executes all responsibilities associated with the Cardiac Catheterization Lab as defined by the scope of practice, addressing the unique needs of each patient.

Positions patients and/or equipment to obtain high-quality radiographs efficiently and understands fundamental radiation principles.

Under physician supervision, administers appropriate contrast agents in accordance with departmental protocols and maintains up-to-date knowledge of these agents.

Assists physicians during procedures by operating radiological equipment and adheres to radiation safety guidelines.

Participates in inventory management, including ordering, storing, and checking supplies for expiration.

Maintains ACLS certification and demonstrates heart rhythm recognition along with normal hemodynamic measurements.

Attends mandatory in-services and maintains departmental competencies, participating in at least 80% of department staff meetings.

Possesses knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques, preparing sterile setups and anticipating physician needs.

Understands and assists with the proper care, maintenance, and replacement of surgical instruments.

Provides appropriate patient care within the scope of practice and maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure as per organizational policy.

Engages in professional growth and development, serving as a role model for both current and new staff.


Adheres to Faith Regional Health Services Corporate Compliance Plan, including Personal Conduct Policy, Safe Environment Policy, Grievance Policy, Confidentiality, Safety and Security, Infection Control, HIPAA, and other departmental and organizational policies.


Qualifications:

Education:
GED or High School Diploma
Completion of a training program in Radiologic Technology or Cardiovascular Technology from an accredited institution.

Certificates and Licenses:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within one month of hire
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within one year of hire.

For Radiologic Technologists:
Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and a State Medical Radiography License.

For Cardiovascular Technologists:
Completion and maintenance of Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.

Other Certifications/Requirements:
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
