Position Overview:
The Surgical Technologist collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical staff to deliver exceptional patient care, ensuring the safe and effective execution of invasive surgical procedures. This role requires a deep understanding of sterile and aseptic techniques, as well as knowledge of human anatomy and surgical instruments to support the physician during therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing the surgical patient and performing routine and delegated tasks, demonstrating the necessary skills to provide age-appropriate care while adhering to organizational policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adapt procedures to meet the diverse needs of various age groups, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
- Operate and maintain sterilizing equipment proficiently.
- Work under the supervision of a surgeon to maintain a safe environment and enhance patient safety.
- Exhibit expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and instruments.
- Prepare sterile setups for surgical procedures and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of surgical instruments.
- Perform patient care tasks in accordance with established protocols.
- Respond appropriately in crisis or emergency situations.
- Communicate effectively with surgical team members regarding equipment, instruments, and procedural changes.
- Contribute to a culture of safety and quality by sharing knowledge and addressing concerns promptly.
- Participate in the development and updating of policies and procedures as required.
- Engage in ongoing education and competency maintenance.
- Collaborate with the team to manage inventory levels and monitor equipment expiration dates.
Job Requirements:
The qualifications listed below are essential for this role:
Education:
- GED or High School Diploma preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred within one year of hire.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required within one year of hire.
Previous clinical experience is preferred.
Skills:
Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language is required.
