Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and technology-driven individual to join our Operations team as a Real Estate Loan Underwriter. This role involves reporting to the Underwriting Team Manager and primarily focuses on evaluating investment properties.

Key Responsibilities:
The Real Estate Loan Underwriter will be tasked with:

  • Conducting comprehensive underwriting of commercial loans, assessing both the borrower and the property.
  • Performing credit evaluations by reviewing financial documents to determine eligibility for financing.
  • Analyzing various properties owned by investors to understand their experience and performance.
  • Identifying potential risks associated with borrowers or properties, and determining appropriate financing options based on specific loan conditions.
  • Evaluating property acquisition costs, renovation plans, current and projected rental income.
  • Creating detailed summary reports that encapsulate loan applications and credit analyses, highlighting quantitative and qualitative evaluations.
  • Investigating discrepancies in applicants' financial statements as necessary.
  • Verifying market comparables for rental and property sale values.
  • Reviewing appraisal analyses to ensure compliance with acceptable standards.
  • Issuing final underwriting approvals with terms and ensuring effective internal communication.
  • Maintaining productivity levels and adhering to established turnaround times.
  • Managing business relationships and anticipating the needs of stakeholders.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience in underwriting, specifically in real estate investment.
  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in finance, business, or economics.
  • A positive attitude, exceptional organizational skills, and self-motivation.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A natural curiosity and skepticism to question existing processes and identify issues.
