Surgical Specimen Processing Technician

The Surgical Specimen Processing Technician plays a crucial role in the laboratory by executing all standard procedures for cutting and staining surgical samples, which includes the preparation of frozen sections and the application of specialized stains.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts all standard cutting and staining processes for surgical samples.
  2. Prepares frozen sections as required.
  3. Applies special staining techniques.
  4. Undertakes additional related tasks as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Must possess a license from the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in histology or training within the last five (5) years is required.

Alternatively:

Completion of at least twelve (12) months of training in an accredited Histotechnology program is acceptable.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions are essential.
  • Good manual dexterity and physical coordination are necessary.
  • This position typically follows a Tuesday to Saturday work schedule, with the expectation of holiday coverage.
