Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Lab Technician to join our team at Atrium Health. As a Medical Lab Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of laboratory results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex clinical laboratory procedures, ensuring quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of technical work.
  • Maintain up-to-date laboratory manuals and stay familiar with regulations of inspecting bodies, helping with their implementation.
  • Complete assigned workload within established turnaround times by organizing work according to test ordering status, assessing urgency, and selecting tasks accordingly.
  • Prepare specimens for testing, verify patient identification, apply rules of specimen rejection, and arrange for recollection when necessary.
  • Use and maintain equipment and instruments used in test performance, perform and document maintenance and quality control.
  • Prepare reagents as required for test performance, calculate, report, and maintain records of test results.
  • Review test results, immediately notify and document notification of all critical values to the physician or nurse/PCA.
  • Perform phlebotomy and finger sticks as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a program for Clinical Lab Assistants or Medical Lab Technicians required.
  • Certification by a nationally recognized agency/board or equivalent experience required.
  • Laboratory experience preferred.

Work Environment

Works in an environment with physicians and other healthcare teammates, in an area that contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, frequent walking, sitting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Lifts and carries items up to 25 pounds, requires visual acuity and normal color perception.
