ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Support Specialist (CSS) is a versatile healthcare professional who operates independently while working under the guidance of a Supervising Registered Nurse or physician to deliver exceptional care to patients at Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon. This role requires proficiency in both clinical and administrative tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Welcomes patients and guides them to examination rooms.
  2. Assists in completing necessary forms and medical histories.
  3. Records and monitors vital signs for patient documentation.
  4. Ensures accurate, legal, and ethical record-keeping at all times.
  5. Provides patients with essential information and instructions regarding procedures.
  6. Schedules appointments for tests and prepares required documentation for laboratories.
  7. Communicates prescription needs to pharmacies as necessary.
  8. Prepares and administers medications under the authorization of R.N./physician.
  9. Assists physicians during examinations and minor office procedures.
  10. Performs dressing changes, applies bandages, and removes sutures as part of first aid procedures.
  11. Maintains cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and examination rooms, adhering to sterile techniques.
  12. Disposes of biohazardous waste in compliance with OSHA standards.
  13. Practices safety standards as outlined by OSHA.
  14. Utilizes CPR skills when required.
  15. Manages inventory and restocks supplies as needed.
  16. Orders supplies as directed.
  17. Adheres to legal and ethical professional conduct.
  18. Participates in scheduled meetings with supervisors and physicians to stay informed of changes.
  19. Performs additional duties as assigned.
  20. Assists patients with mobility and light hygiene tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic computer proficiency is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong listening, verbal, and communication skills are essential.
  • Must be personable and capable of interacting with patients who may be anxious or fearful.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is necessary.
  • Preferred certification or licensure as a Medical Assistant.
  • CPR Certification is required.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements for licensure/certification.
  • Experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
