Position Overview
Under general supervision, the Mechanical Project Manager is accountable for the successful execution and performance of HVAC retrofit initiatives. This role involves adhering to standardized project management protocols to achieve financial objectives for assigned projects. The manager will coordinate daily activities of technicians and subcontractors, secure new projects and change orders from existing clients, and provide mechanical project estimates along with reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and oversee mechanical projects, ensuring compliance with established standards.
- Facilitate the resolution of product-related issues and secure additional work from current clients.
- Provide technical support to the sales team and assist in project development efforts.
- Recruit, hire, and manage project team resources, ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
- Review and interpret contract terms and conditions to ensure compliance.
- Coordinate with support teams for accurate job installation layouts and details.
- Analyze financial reports and project schedules to identify potential issues and manage risks effectively.
- Conduct ongoing cost analysis and manage financial reporting systems.
- Utilize standard tracking tools to communicate project progress and financial status to management.
- Identify opportunities for project scope improvements that may lead to value-added change orders.
- Manage asset oversight, including collections, cost control, and billing processes.
- Ensure compliance with specifications, local codes, and installation techniques.
- Negotiate procurement of materials and subcontractor agreements, resolving any disputes.
- Oversee material logistics and warehousing processes.
- Deliver high-quality written communications and maintain project document controls.
- Foster long-term relationships with clients and subcontractors, leading progress meetings as necessary.
- Ensure a smooth transition to the appropriate project teams upon completion.
- Coordinate training requirements for clients and ensure adherence to safety standards.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with technical training preferred.
- A minimum of six years of comprehensive knowledge in the service industry, particularly in fast-track retrofit and tenant improvement projects.
- Proven leadership abilities to manage a team on projects with revenues up to $2M.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in project management software and financial accounting systems.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office, Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environments.
- Willingness to travel within and outside the assigned geographical area.
Preferred:
- Two to four years of engineering or trade school training.
- Seven or more years of installation and service experience with HVAC mechanical systems.
- HVAC License for NC/SC.
