Job Overview

The Field Crops Extension Entomologist will spearhead the development and implementation of educational programs aimed at addressing pest management challenges affecting field crops in the Texas Panhandle, including but not limited to corn, wheat, cotton, sorghum, and forages. This role encompasses a significant applied research component to support the educational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and analyze information from various stakeholders to shape the content and priorities of educational programming.
  • Assist county agents with programming and content related to pest management through consultations, site visits, and educational presentations.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for agents and provide mentorship in subject matter expertise.
  • Collaborate with agricultural commodity groups to identify regional needs and develop relevant programs.
Primary Duties:
  • Offer expert guidance on arthropod pest management in field crops.
  • Create a recognized applied research program focusing on pest management in key crops.
  • Utilize innovative outreach techniques to educate producers and agricultural professionals.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments to enhance Extension and research efforts.
Qualifications:

PhD in entomology or a closely related field is required. Candidates should possess strong communication skills, experience in extension programming, and a proven track record of scholarly work in the field.
