Job Summary

As a Radiology Department Manager at Prisma Health, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our imaging department. This includes managing technologists and support personnel, completing scheduling and equipment repairs, and evaluating work progress within the designated scope of services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily operations of the imaging department, including all modalities operational at the facility.
  • Keep up to date with technology in the field, for the area of responsibility.
  • Has current knowledge of new procedures, equipment and methods of operations.
  • Assists in planning of new equipment and modifications to existing equipment and materials.
  • Responsible for the smooth patient flow, promotes high standard of patient care and safety while within the department.
  • Trains the staff on proper care and use of equipment for patient safety.
  • Informs patients and families of all delays, answers any questions that they might have and offers appropriate accommodations if needed.
  • Train staff on how to deal with difficult situations.
  • Listens to customer comments and/or concerns and responds in a timely manner.
  • Maintains x-ray and other equipment in efficient operating order; ensures performance of preventive maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts outside services for major malfunctions.
  • Directs maintenance of departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff.
  • Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
  • Manages employees by establishing annual performance goals, allocating resources, assessing annual performance and determining individual merit, incentive and/or promotional increases.
  • Annual performance evaluations are turned in on or before the due date.
  • Is responsible for selecting and interviewing prospective employees using Prisma Health interviewing process.
  • Hiring externally or the transfer of internal personnel.
  • Ensures that new staff is properly trained.
  • Informs new staff of departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Works within department to ensure good employee, physician and supervisor relationships.
  • Works with staff technologist in areas of need due to shortages, FMLA, PTO and sick times.
  • Responsible for the disciplinary action with employees, coaching for improvement, follow-up coaching to include termination if necessary.
  • Promotes positive recognition to ensure the delivery of quality services to our customers.
  • Acts as an educational resource and is available for consultation to medical, nursing and administrative staff.
  • Holds monthly staff meetings.
  • Communicates with the staff of new information and changes; listens to feedback and suggestions from staff to improve working conditions.
  • Works with other Prisma facilities to standardize protocols.
  • Maintains good employee relations.
  • Works with the Compliance Coordinator to help plan the Prisma sponsored CME approved radiology seminars throughout the year as requested by the Radiology Compliance Coordinator.
  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining department records and reports collecting statistical data.
  • Establishes work schedules and priorities to ensure workflow is controlled.
  • Oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating and monitoring; works directly with staff.
  • Performs exams as needed.
  • Delivers quality patient care.
  • Oversees new testing procedures and related protocol.
  • Encourages and approves introduction and demonstration to new techniques, equipment and research findings.
  • Positions patients and operates equipment to produce the most reliable and informational data.
  • Remains competent in areas of registries in order to provide patient care in a professional, prompt and caring manner.
  • Acquires and maintains the American College of Radiology accreditation status for imaging modalities in addition to adhering to the State Regulatory Agency guidelines for the MQSA, DHEC, CMS and FDA inspections.
  • Keeps updated records for DHEC inspections as needed.
  • Replies in a timely manner to any recommendations from the agencies concerning compliance.
