POSITION OVERVIEW

The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino is seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to become part of our Food and Beverage team as a Barista. The Barista is responsible for providing guests with exceptional service in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring complete guest satisfaction. This role involves promoting coffee culture by educating patrons, selling coffee products and equipment, and preparing a diverse range of coffee beverages along with baked goods.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Greet customers by identifying their coffee preferences and needs.
  • Inform customers by presenting and clarifying the coffee menu; addressing inquiries.
  • Market coffee products and brewing equipment by explaining the distinctions between various coffee beans and brewing methods; demonstrating equipment functionality.
  • Craft and serve coffee beverages by adhering to established recipes and preparation methods for drinks such as espresso, latte, and cappuccino.
  • Manage inventory by restocking coffee supplies; maintaining coffee brewing equipment; ensuring availability of pastries and cookies.
  • Ensure equipment functionality by following operational guidelines; troubleshooting issues; maintaining supplies; performing routine maintenance; requesting repairs as necessary.
  • Uphold a safe and sanitary work environment by adhering to organizational standards and health regulations.
  • Enhance service quality by analyzing, evaluating, and refining processes; implementing improvements; maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the coffee area.
  • Contribute to the coffee shop's reputation by taking ownership of new and diverse requests; seeking opportunities to enhance job performance.
  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system for a portion of the shift, at least 4 hours.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks.
  • Assist with the comprehensive cleaning of the store on a monthly basis.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience as a Barista is preferred.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to interact with customers and colleagues in a respectful and tactful manner.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English to communicate effectively with guests and team members.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capability to interpret and execute a variety of instructions provided in different formats.
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including holidays, evenings, and weekends as required by business needs.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Commitment to meeting and exceeding the expectations of both internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrates honesty and respect towards others.
  • Consistently displays courteous and respectful communication, presenting information clearly.
  • Collaborates effectively with others to achieve common goals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • While performing this role, the employee must maintain physical stamina and a positive attitude to thrive in a fast-paced environment and interact effectively with customers and team members.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and navigate through various areas; communicate verbally and audibly; use hands for handling tasks; may need to reach overhead, bend, squat, balance, kneel, lift, and push/pull.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
