The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino is seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to become part of our Food and Beverage team as a Barista. The Barista is responsible for ensuring that guests receive service in a friendly, professional, and accommodating manner, aiming for complete guest satisfaction. This role involves promoting coffee culture by educating patrons, selling coffee products and equipment, and preparing a variety of coffee beverages along with pastries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet customers by identifying their coffee preferences and needs.
- Inform customers by presenting and explaining the coffee menu; addressing inquiries.
- Market coffee products and brewing equipment by detailing the distinctions between coffee beans and preparation machines; demonstrating equipment usage.
- Craft and serve coffee beverages by adhering to established recipes and preparation methods for drinks like espresso, latte, and cappuccino.
- Manage inventory by restocking coffee supplies; ensuring coffee equipment is well-maintained; keeping pastries and cookies available for customers.
- Ensure equipment functionality by following operational guidelines; troubleshooting issues; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; coordinating repairs when necessary.
- Uphold a safe and sanitary work environment by adhering to organizational standards and health regulations.
- Enhance service quality by evaluating and redesigning processes; implementing improvements; maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the coffee area.
- Boost the coffee shop's reputation by taking ownership of new tasks and exploring ways to add value to the customer experience.
- Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system for a portion of the shift, at least 4 hours.
- Conduct routine cleaning tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Assist with comprehensive cleaning efforts as needed.
- Prior experience as a Barista is preferred.
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Ability to interact with customers and colleagues in a respectful and tactful manner.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English to communicate effectively with guests and team members.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Capability to interpret and execute a variety of instructions in different formats.
- Excellent time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations accurately.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including holidays, nights, and weekends as required.
- Must be at least 16 years old.

- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and navigate throughout the facility; must be able to communicate verbally and use hands for various tasks.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
- Work is primarily indoors in a climate-controlled environment, with occasional exposure to cold temperatures in storage areas.
