Dallas County is seeking a highly skilled Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to join our team. As a GIS Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of GIS solutions to enhance our operations and decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform spatial analysis and generate maps and reports to present that analysis.
  • Gather, review, clean, and tune spatial and other related data.
  • Use advanced GIS tools and methodologies to generate various analyses and solutions.
  • Prepare and present findings for various audiences.
  • Review business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Interview end-users and customers to gather requirements.
  • Create mapping, reporting, and application solutions to fulfill requirements.
  • Implement GIS solutions and provide specifications for component software and hardware.
  • Adapt systems as necessary to meet specific needs.
  • Train users on GIS technologies.
  • Design, administer, and maintain spatial databases.
  • Assure integrity, version continuity, and standards compliance of GIS data.
  • Manage migration of data into relational databases and assist with data replication.
  • Perform basic system administration for servers, SQL databases, and online solutions.
  • Maintain inventory of necessary expendable supplies to ensure functioning of GIS components.
  • Perform minor maintenance on plotters and large format scanners.

Requirements

  • Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical field of study.
  • Skilled in the use of Esri ArcGIS suite of desktop, server, and SAS software and systems.
  • Sound knowledge of spatial analysis methodologies.
  • Experience and facility with standard software applications, including GIS, office productivity, database, utility, graphics, and presentation software.
  • Basic familiarity with software development and technology implementation practices.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, and the general public.
