Position Overview:

As a Product Strategy Manager at The Weather Company, you will oversee a diverse array of products. You will be integrated into the SUN Platform and Data Services team, which is responsible for a versatile and highly scalable platform that delivers weather, insights, location, and health/wellness data. The ideal candidate will offer both strategic and tactical direction to teams and leadership. In this role, you will collaborate with our development teams, stakeholders, and business leaders to assess, plan, and execute software development initiatives within established timelines and scopes. In addition to robust product delivery and technical expertise, you should possess a proven track record in problem-solving, managing multiple concurrent projects, software development life cycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, and the delivery of intricate, large-scale software initiatives. You should be capable of critical thinking, leading with intellect, and demonstrating a readiness to engage actively in the process.

Your Contributions:
  • Take ownership of the API services that constitute the Weather Data business, catering to consumer, enterprise, media, and aviation sectors.
  • Engage directly with both internal and external clients to ensure the achievement of key business objectives.
  • Identify the challenges and solutions that a product aims to address. Define the requirements, features, and functionalities by collaborating with internal development teams, clients, and stakeholders, fostering consensus and accountability across all functions for the launch, support, and maintenance of the product.
  • Establish and promote a vision and roadmap for services that align with business goals.
  • Work alongside engineers to design and develop the API architecture, ensuring both scalability and performance.
  • Create clear and comprehensive API documentation for developers.
  • Lead sprint planning and refinement sessions to organize and strategize the detailed work necessary to complete projects.
  • Monitor API usage and performance metrics, identifying opportunities for enhancement and optimization.
  • Manage projects ranging from single sprint tasks to complex initiatives involving multiple teams over extended periods.
  • Recognize and escalate risks and issues as necessary. Collaborate with development teams to devise mitigation strategies and communicate impacts to leadership.
  • Facilitate an efficient development process for teams.
Your Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in a technology-driven environment, including 2-3 years in product management.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing technology-focused projects with hands-on knowledge of underlying architecture, components, and dependencies.
  • Experience leading projects utilizing Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Delivery models.
  • Experience with cloud technology projects, preferably within AWS.
  • Proficiency in JIRA and other Atlassian tools for issue tracking.
  • Ability to manage time and deliverables across multiple ongoing projects.
  • Self-management skills and a proactive approach.
  • Capability to influence, negotiate, and hold teams accountable for executing plans.
  • Strong ability to articulate clear and thorough requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Programming experience and a technology degree (BS or MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering) are advantageous.
  • Experience with Content Delivery Networks (CDN) and serving data at scale.
  • Background in working with weather data providers or meteorological organizations.
  • Strong understanding of security by design principles.
