Position Overview

The Grocery Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing products from various vendors, both local and national, to ensure the Grocery Department meets customer demand and sales objectives. Collaborating closely with the Grocery Department Manager, this role involves determining the optimal product assortment, managing inventory levels, and delivering exceptional customer service. With the support of Clerks, the Grocery Procurement Specialist aims to create a superior shopping experience for all customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Selection and Customer Engagement: Curate a diverse selection of grocery items that align with sales targets while ensuring high-quality customer service.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and customer preferences to adjust product offerings accordingly.
  • Monitor pricing strategies to ensure a range of products is accessible to all customers.
  • Achieve quarterly financial targets related to sales, margins, and labor costs.
  • Manage inventory orders to maintain optimal stock levels and fulfill special requests accurately.
  • Analyze department waste and implement strategies to minimize losses.
Collaboration and Promotions

  • Work under the guidance of the Grocery Manager to coordinate with Merchandising and Marketing teams to achieve store-wide objectives.
  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked and visually appealing to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Participate in planning and executing seasonal promotions, utilizing knowledge of market trends.
  • Exemplify leadership in maintaining high merchandising standards during promotional events.
Financial Management and Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate financial and inventory records to support departmental and store-wide data needs.
  • Adhere to procedures for receiving products, processing invoices, and tracking spoilage.
  • Set and adjust pricing to meet financial goals, regularly reviewing margins for necessary corrections.
  • Engage in quarterly inventory assessments to ensure accuracy.
Safety and Cleanliness

  • Collaborate with the Store Service Team to uphold a safe and clean department.
  • Participate in scheduling regular cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions and recommend repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Lead initiatives to maintain safety and sanitation standards within the department.
General Expectations

  • Deliver outstanding customer service to both internal and external clients.
  • Respond to inquiries promptly and courteously.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Experience in merchandising and retail sales, particularly in natural foods.
  • Minimum: Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Physical Requirements
