Position Overview

The Grocery Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in sourcing products from a diverse range of vendors, both local and national, to ensure the Grocery Department meets its objectives for customer satisfaction, sales performance, and profitability. Collaborating closely with the Grocery Department Manager, this position is responsible for managing product assortment, placing orders, overseeing inventory levels, and delivering exceptional customer service. With the support of Clerks, the Grocery Procurement Specialist strives to create a consistently outstanding shopping experience for all customers.

This is a Full-Time role (40 hours per week across 5 shifts).

Key Responsibilities

Product Selection and Customer Engagement

  • Curates a well-rounded selection of grocery items that align with sales targets while ensuring top-notch customer service.
  • Maintains a keen awareness of market trends, customer preferences, and product performance to guide departmental strategies.
  • Ensures pricing is competitive and accessible to a broad customer base.
  • Aims to achieve quarterly financial targets, including sales, profit margins, and labor costs.
  • Manages inventory levels by placing orders in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Handles special orders effectively, ensuring products are available and accurately priced, while adhering to customer communication protocols.
  • Monitors department waste and implements corrective measures to mitigate negative trends.

Collaboration with Management and Marketing

  • Works under the Grocery Manager's guidance to coordinate with Merchandising and Marketing teams to fulfill store-wide objectives.
  • Ensures shelves are stocked and the department is well-presented to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Participates in planning and executing seasonal promotions, leveraging knowledge of trends and product availability.
  • Demonstrates leadership in maintaining high merchandising standards throughout promotional events.

Financial and Inventory Management

  • Maintains accurate financial and inventory records to support departmental and organizational data needs.
  • Adheres to procedures for receiving products, processing invoices, and documenting spoilage.
  • Sets and adjusts pricing to meet margin goals, regularly reviewing performance and making necessary adjustments.
  • Engages in quarterly inventory assessments to ensure accuracy.

Department Maintenance and Safety

  • Collaborates with the Store Service Team to maintain a safe, clean, and inviting department.
  • Participates in scheduling regular cleaning and maintenance tasks, addressing issues as they arise.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and recommends repairs or replacements as necessary.
  • Leads initiatives to uphold safety and sanitation standards within the department.

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Experience in merchandising and retail sales.
  • Background in natural foods retail, particularly in ordering and stocking.
  • Ability to articulate retail concepts such as revenue and margin.

Minimum:

  • Capability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Aptitude for following written and verbal instructions.
  • Skill in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities.
