The Associate Counsel for Intellectual Property and Marketing will deliver legal support in trademark, copyright, and marketing areas to various business units. This role involves managing Under Armour's global trademark and copyright portfolios, including clearance, prosecution, and enforcement. Additionally, the Associate Counsel will provide guidance on marketing and advertising legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a wide range of intellectual property issues, including domestic and international trademark, copyright, and design clearance, enforcement, transactions, and domain management.
  • Conduct clearance searches to assess the availability of proposed trademarks, taglines, product names, and other consumer-facing content.
  • Oversee a substantial volume of trademark prosecution and enforcement matters with U.S. and international Intellectual Property offices and third parties.
  • Collaborate with and supervise external law firms, vendors, and internal partners as necessary for ongoing IP matters.
  • Draft legal documents, including cease and desist letters and Notices of Opposition.
  • Contribute to the enforcement of Under Armour's rights and assist in risk management strategies.
  • Review advertising and promotional materials across various media platforms.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide advice on claim substantiation, publicity rights, and draft necessary disclosures.
  • Structure and review Terms and Conditions for marketing promotions, including sweepstakes and contests.
  • Draft and negotiate IP licenses and marketing agreements with external parties.
  • Prepare and update waivers and releases for marketing events.
  • Educate and counsel the business proactively to manage risks and enhance IP protection.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. and active membership in a state bar in good standing.
  • 5-10 years of experience in-house or at a law firm with a focus on intellectual property, including trademarks and copyrights.
  • Preference for candidates with prior law firm experience.
  • Experience in sustainability or environmental advertising is advantageous but not mandatory.

Workplace Location:

  • This position requires residency within commuting distance from our global headquarters.
  • Work arrangement includes three days in-office and the remainder remote.

Compensation:

  • Base salary range: $175,000 - $240,937.40 USD.

Most new hires typically fall within this range, with opportunities for growth over time. Initial salary placement is based on relevant knowledge, skills, and experience. Under Armour is committed to supporting our teammates' success and career advancement.
