Job Title: Chief Actuary, Property and Casualty

As a key member of the Maryland Insurance Administration, the Chief Actuary, Property and Casualty will lead the actuarial operations and supervise a team of actuaries in the Property and Casualty Division. The successful candidate will have a strong background in actuarial science, mathematics, and insurance, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in property and casualty actuarial work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct and manage the actuarial operations and supervise a team of actuaries in the Property and Casualty Division.
  • Review rate/rule filings for adherence to actuarial principles and compliance with Maryland insurance law.
  • Conduct surveys, special studies, data calls, and prepare reports as required.
  • Provide actuarial perspective and recommendations to the Property and Casualty Division staff, the P&C Workgroup, and other sections of the MIA.
  • May provide testimony in support of analysis or opinions at rate hearings.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Insurance, Risk Management, or related fields.
  • A minimum of 10 years of property/casualty actuarial experience.
  • Fellow or Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS or ACAS) designation and Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • In-depth understanding of property and casualty insurance ratemaking procedures and rate regulatory statues.
  • Strong mathematical, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Prior leadership experience, which included managing actuarial staff.
