Job Summary

This is a critical role within the State of New Mexico's Cybersecurity Office, responsible for managing and guiding the cybersecurity team to ensure the effective protection of the state's devices, computer networks, and data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement statewide IT security and compliance policies and standards.
  • Lead the cybersecurity team in identifying and mitigating security risks, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with state agencies and external partners to implement information security policies, processes, and best practices.
  • Act as a liaison between the Cybersecurity Office and state agencies, providing guidance and support on cybersecurity matters.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including state agencies, K-12 public schools, higher educational institutions, local governments, and tribal entities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in IT security or compliance validation, with a focus on developing and implementing security policies and procedures.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing a team of security and compliance professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of IT security frameworks, including NIST 800-53, and compliance frameworks, such as HIPAA and PCI.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with stakeholders.
Working Conditions

This position will be performed in an office environment with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive telephone and personal computer usage.

The person must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, and mouse, and work extended periods seated in front of a computer.

Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
