Job Overview

Position Summary

The Actuary - Model Assessment Specialist is responsible for the development and upkeep of Microsoft Excel-based model assessment tools tailored for diverse applications and product categories. These tools play a crucial role in our governance framework and must be maintained efficiently. This role will also focus on identifying opportunities to enhance process efficiencies, potentially through the use of additional software applications.

This position reports to the AVP of Model Assessment and will oversee 1-2 actuarial professionals, including responsibilities for mentoring and developing the actuarial team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various departments to comprehend necessary modifications to Corporate AXIS models utilized for pricing, inforce management, asset-liability management (ALM), and valuation purposes.
  • Independently revise the Microsoft Excel assessment tools to integrate required changes using model change management protocols and efficient programming techniques.
  • Ensure that assessment tools are created and maintained using optimal methods.
  • Act as the F&G authority on Corporate AXIS model assessment tools by providing technical assistance and relevant training to other actuarial users, both internal and external to the team.
  • Develop and implement enhancements to create repeatable and scalable processes.
  • Maintain thorough documentation.
  • Promote a risk-aware culture within the team.
  • Lead and manage actuarial staff, ensuring team objectives are achieved while implementing development initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of the actuarial team. Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented atmosphere.

Qualifications and Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or a related discipline.
  • Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant actuarial experience.
  • Experience with and knowledge of US Statutory and US GAAP reporting preferred.
  • Familiarity with Fixed Indexed Annuities, Registered Index-Linked Annuities, Indexed Universal Life, or related reinsurance preferred.
  • Experience with AXIS or similar actuarial modeling software preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Extensive proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with VBA, Python, R, or other programming languages preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply actuarial principles to complex scenarios.
  • Unwavering integrity and commitment to delivering precise information on schedule.
  • Team-oriented with a proven ability to proactively identify issues and influence key project decisions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Self-motivated individual who demonstrates strong initiative and can operate effectively in unpredictable and challenging project environments.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate with and present to all levels of management.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Regular and punctual attendance is required.
  • Some travel may be necessary (less than 10%).
