Job Overview

Position Summary

The Senior Actuarial Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the analytical modeling necessary for various corporate financial metrics. This includes contributions to the Multi-Year Planning, Cash Flow Testing, Asset Liability Management (ALM), and other strategic initiatives within the organization.

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of Actuarial Asset Liability Modeling. The incumbent will engage actively with teams in Financial Planning & Analysis, Risk Management, and the Corporate Actuarial department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize AXIS modeling software to generate actuarial forecasts.
  • Assist in the creation and validation of asset modeling forecasts, including those for Cash Flow Testing, Risk-Based Capital, and ALM assessments.
  • Establish and uphold effective controls for AXIS models and related reports.
  • Evaluate model outputs, pinpoint critical factors, and effectively communicate findings.
  • Review and approve modifications to AXIS models, conducting necessary change management testing.
  • Support the annual business planning process, including sensitivity analyses and narrative requirements.

Qualifications and Educational Background

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • At least an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation, with progress towards Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in individual life and annuity actuarial roles.
  • Familiarity with general account insurance products, indexed products, life insurance accounting, and asset modeling; knowledge of pension risk transfer is advantageous.
  • Understanding of Statutory, GAAP, and Tax accounting principles.
  • Intermediate proficiency with actuarial modeling systems, particularly AXIS, is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of business and technical operations is desirable.

Skills and Competencies

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Statutory, GAAP, and Tax accounting.
  • Familiarity with general account insurance products.
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of developing policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Proficient in problem analysis and resolution at a functional level.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Demonstrates initiative and a strong desire to understand and address challenges.
  • Willingness to seek clarification and suggest enhancements.
  • High level of accountability for assigned responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills, with the ability to apply actuarial principles to complex scenarios.
  • Commitment to personal and professional growth through feedback and continuous improvement.

Additional Requirements

  • Carry out other functions, duties, and projects as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary (less than 10%).
