Position Overview:
The Learning Support Specialist 2 (LSS2) is tasked with fulfilling the role of a professional tutor. This position involves providing in-person tutoring services and requires the ability to work with students individually or in small groups, enhancing their understanding and mastery of the designated subject matter. The LSS2 is expected to manage multiple students simultaneously while collaborating with fellow tutors in a shared tutoring environment. Regular communication with the department regarding student progress and needs is essential. Additionally, this role involves generating reports from tutoring software and submitting them to the supervisor. A strong command of the subject matter and effective communication skills are crucial, utilizing diverse teaching methods and tools.

Tutoring Responsibilities:

  • Enhances students' comprehension and mastery of course materials outside of class, focusing on introductory courses within the area of expertise.
  • Assists students in developing and applying effective learning and study strategies, meeting them at scheduled times.

Administrative Duties:

  • Keeps detailed records of all tutoring sessions and generates departmental reports related to tutoring activities.
  • Communicates relevant information to course instructors to support student learning and effectively utilizes the College's tutoring software.

Professional Development:

  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of course content and various instructional methodologies to cater to different student learning styles. Participates in tutor training sessions.
  • Provides assistance to LSS, LSS1, Peer Tutors, and Supplemental Instructional Leaders, including technical support for tutoring software and report generation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching at Columbus State Community College.
