Supervision:
As a Paramedic, you will perform critical duties that require significant judgment in daily operations.

Supervision Received:
You will work under the guidance of the ALS Coordinator.

Supervision Given:
You will oversee full-time and part-time EMT Basics and Intermediates, and have supervisory responsibilities over all ambulance personnel during emergency situations involving patient care.

Work Environment:


Your work will primarily take place in vehicles and outdoor settings, often under varying weather conditions, where exposure to medical hazards, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials may occur.

The noise level is typically high during emergency situations, and much of the work is conducted in urgent and stressful circumstances.
You will regularly operate motor vehicles, hand tools, and standard medical equipment.
Access to and administration of medications, including controlled substances, will be part of your responsibilities, requiring a high degree of accuracy.
Frequent interactions with the public, vendors, and hospital staff will necessitate perceptiveness and discretion.

Confidential information regarding patients and citizens will be accessible, requiring appropriate judgment and adherence to professional protocols.

Mistakes could jeopardize safety, cause significant delays, and result in serious financial or legal consequences for the organization.

Key Responsibilities:


The following duties are representative of the various tasks you may be expected to perform:

The omission of specific tasks does not exclude them from your role if they are similar or related.

Maintain ambulance and equipment functionality, perform building maintenance, and ensure radio equipment is operational. Stock ambulances with necessary medical supplies and conduct daily inventory checks. Manage the supply of all ALS medications on board the ambulances.
Respond to ambulance calls during your scheduled shifts. Provide both basic and advanced life support to the sick and injured. Assess situations to determine the most effective treatment for specific injuries and illnesses (per OEMS Protocol). Communicate effectively with patients and their families during emergencies. Lift and transport patients as needed.

Regularly calculate medication dosages and administer drug therapy while performing invasive procedures under challenging conditions.

Work under Medical Control to execute medical procedures in urgent situations.
Communicate with local hospitals, transferring patient records to emergency department staff and following up as necessary.
Participate in training seminars and maintain current certifications.
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
Perform similar or related tasks as required or directed.

Knowledge:
Comprehensive understanding of emergency medical services principles, practices, and approved methods.

Skills:
Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to respond accurately and professionally in high-pressure situations. Strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential.

Physical agility is necessary for accessing all areas of emergency sites and buildings, as well as traversing uneven terrain. Vision and hearing must be at or correctable to normal ranges. Ability to detect odors is also required.

Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
CPR certification for professional rescuers.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Possession of a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle license.
