Job Summary

Customer Value Partners is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to provide support at the Danville VA Medical Center. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing blood collection, accessing and receiving samples, and transporting specimens to the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood collection requiring knowledge of clinical science to understand the multiplicity of tests and specimen requirements.
  • Access and receive samples into the VA and DoD laboratory information system.
  • Transport specimens to the laboratory, including those requiring special handling.
  • Call up collection lists for inpatient blood draws and look up order numbers and patient information for outpatient collections.
  • Process samples to the automated loader of the laboratory information system.
  • Prepare, accession, maintain, file, and dispose of anatomic pathology specimens and records.
  • Answer phones and direct calls to other laboratory personnel.
  • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills and good customer relations with patients, families, and medical center personnel.
  • Provide general clerical and administrative support.
  • Order, stock, and maintain specialized supplies used in the drawing process.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience within the last 3 years as a Patient Service Technician/Phlebotomist.
  • Experience with the Vista Laboratory Information System (LIS) is preferred.

Requirements

  • Sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
