Clinical Laboratory Specialist Job Description

Job Summary

Clinical Laboratory Specialist is a vital role at Customer Value Partners, where we seek a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team in providing support at the Danville VA Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform blood collection requiring knowledge of clinical science to understand the multiplicity of tests and specimen requirements, the mechanics of venipuncture and patient care.
  • Perform phlebotomy to obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing including blood cultures and compatibility.
  • Instruct patients in proper collection of 24 hour urine and other samples collected.
  • Prepare collection, measures and records 24 hour urine.
  • Call up collection lists for inpatient blood draws and look up order numbers and patient information for outpatient.
  • Prepare, accession, maintain, file, and dispose of anatomic pathology specimens and records.
  • Answer phones and direct calls to other laboratory.
  • Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills and good customer relations with patients, families, and all other medical center personnel.
  • Provide general clerical and administrative support.
  • Order, stock, and maintain specialized supplies used in the drawing.
Requirements
  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency, e.g. certification program, ASCP, AMT, AMCA, etc.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
