Job Overview:
As a Central Sterile Technician, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare environment by ensuring the cleanliness and sterilization of surgical instruments and reusable medical supplies. Your expertise will contribute to the efficiency of surgical procedures and the overall safety of patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough cleaning and decontamination of surgical instruments.
- Assemble, package, and sterilize instrument sets with precision.
- Coordinate and prepare necessary supplies for both routine and emergency surgical cases.
- Conduct inspections of instruments to ensure they are clean and in optimal working condition prior to sterilization.
- Utilize sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, and maintain accurate sterilization logs.
- Participate in the routine cleaning and decontamination of work surfaces within the department.
- Monitor sterile inventory and manage the re-sterilization of compromised instrument sets.
- Assist in training new staff members and support team members as needed.
- Maintain effective communication with operating room personnel to ensure timely delivery of supplies.
- Implement good inventory control practices, adhering to FIFO (first in, first out) methods.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of six months in a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with sterilization processes and safety standards.
- Understanding of sanitation and hygiene regulations.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Strong customer service skills and effective communication abilities.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and record-keeping.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain positive working relationships.
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Certifications: Certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is mandatory.
