Manager of Sterile Processing Operations

Overview: In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight of the processing, storage, and distribution of sterile supplies and equipment within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential to the position. Failure to perform these duties may lead to disqualification from the role.
- Oversee the cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and reusable supplies, as well as the preparation of case carts.
- Manage the processing, storage, and distribution of sterile supplies and equipment.
- Supervise the daily operations of the department.
- Monitor the surgery case schedule to ensure instruments, equipment, and case carts are prepared and available as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all sterilization requirements for equipment.
- Address the needs for instrumentation and equipment as established by medical professionals.
- Evaluate departmental processes and implement improvements as necessary while supervising staff.
- Conduct educational programs for staff to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Ensure staff are adequately trained in sterile processing and case cart preparation.
- Assess employee performance and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Engage in various assigned projects as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician program is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of three years of hospital experience, including at least two years in a supervisory or management role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Certification as an Operating Room Technician or from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required within six months of hire. Certification in Healthcare Leadership (HSPA) or in Sterile Processing Management (CBSPD) is also required within six months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficient understanding of the maintenance and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment, sanitation and hygiene practices, safety protocols for sterilization, and basic record-keeping principles. Strong supervisory skills and the ability to foster effective relationships with medical staff, peers, and subordinates. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
