Position Overview:

This role includes a sign-on incentive of $50,000.

Job Purpose:
The primary responsibility is to assess patients experiencing a variety of visual challenges, identify ocular diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, and provide treatment options as permitted by licensure.

Additionally, the role involves referring patients to other suitable Kaiser Permanente specialists for comprehensive evaluation and care.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough examinations for patients with diverse visual issues utilizing a comprehensive range of optometric tools and methodologies.
  • Identify ocular diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, prescribing appropriate treatments in accordance with the legal standards of the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Fit and prescribe contact lenses as necessary.
  • Assess the visual needs of patients with partial sight.
  • Recommend low-vision aids, including telescopic and microscopic lenses, magnifiers, and other optical devices to assist patients with low vision.
  • In accordance with state regulations or under physician directives, utilize diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to identify and diagnose ocular conditions.
  • Employ examination techniques to uncover ocular indicators of systemic diseases and medication effects.
  • Refer patients to other Kaiser Permanente professionals for further assessment and treatment as required.
  • Engage in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review sessions within the medical facility.
  • Collaborate regularly with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology on patient care matters.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of eye care educational programs for medical center personnel and patient seminars.
  • Under physician guidance and in partnership with an ophthalmologist, evaluate and manage anterior segment disorders.
  • Participate in rotating Saturday shifts as needed.
  • Travel to various Optometry Centers as required by business needs.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: Not applicable.
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited Optometry program.
  • Licensure: Enrollment in PECOS within 90 days of employment.
