Vision Care Specialist

Job Purpose:
To assess patients with a comprehensive range of visual challenges, identify visual ailments, and recommend treatment options as per licensure and accreditation.
To direct patients to other relevant Kaiser Permanente specialists as necessary for additional assessment and care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts thorough examinations of patients experiencing various visual issues utilizing a complete array of optometric tools and methodologies.
- Identifies visual disorders, diseases, and deficiencies, prescribing appropriate treatments in accordance with state regulations.
- Furnishes and adjusts contact lenses.
- Evaluates visual needs of individuals with partial sight.
- Recommends low-vision aids such as telescopic and microscopic lenses, magnifiers, and other optical instruments to assist low-vision patients.
- Employs diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to identify and assess ocular conditions under the directives of a physician.
- Utilizes examination methods to detect ocular indicators of systemic illnesses and medication effects.
- Refers patients to other suitable Kaiser Permanente professionals for further evaluation and management.
- Engages in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review processes within the department and medical facility.
- Regularly collaborates with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology regarding patient care matters.
- Contributes to the development of eye care educational programs for medical center personnel and patient seminars.
- Under the guidance of a physician and in partnership with an ophthalmologist, assesses and manages specified anterior segment conditions.
Rotating Saturdays (1 Saturday per month) are required.
Travel to various Optometry Centers may be necessary based on operational needs.
Basic Qualifications:
- N/A
- Graduation from an accredited Optometry program.
- Enrollment in PECOS within 90 days of hire.
- Optometrist License (Maryland) OR Optometrist License (Virginia) OR Optometrist License (District of Columbia).
- Basic Life Support certification required at hire from the American Heart Association.
- National Provider Identifier required at hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
- At least two (2) years of experience in a collaborative healthcare setting preferred or successful completion of an accredited residency program.
- Accredited residency in Optometry preferred.
