Senior Veterinary Technician

The Senior Veterinary Technician is a key member of the University Laboratory Animal Resources (ULAR) department, responsible for providing high-quality care to research animals at Temple University. This mid-level position requires a strong background in veterinary technology, with experience in animal handling, anesthesia, and surgical support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert-level care to research animals, including handling, restraint, and administration of medications.
- Assist veterinarians with surgical procedures, including setup and maintenance of operating suites.
- Monitor and maintain anesthesia equipment, ensuring proper function and safety.
- Lead the execution of the rodent animal health surveillance program, including scheduling testing, collecting and processing samples, and managing outbreaks.
- Train entry-level veterinary technicians and animal caretakers on common clinical conditions and procedures.
- Associate degree in a life science or related discipline (may substitute experience for formal education on a 2 for 1 basis).
- 1 or more years of veterinary technician experience.
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, etc.) highly desirable.
- AALAS certification at LAT level or higher is highly desirable.
