Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant 2-Trainer is a highly skilled professional responsible for performing patient-oriented procedures and tasks at all Loma Linda University Health Care (LLUHC) sites. Under the supervision of a physician, supervisor, and/or licensed staff person, this individual will provide advanced/super user support in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and participate in new and ongoing training and education.

This role requires a strong background in front desk and clinical back-office operations, including check-in/check-out and referrals for multiple departments. The Medical Assistant 2-Trainer will serve as a preceptor/mentor for new Medical Assistant hires and students, as well as other clinical staff during the orientation/training period and as needed.

This position also involves providing coverage to various LLUHC departments as requested/required when not precepting/training. The Medical Assistant 2-Trainer will perform other duties as needed.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Graduate of a Credentialed or Nationally Recognized Medical Assistant (MA) program required for Front Office and Clinical Back Office
  • Minimum two years of Medical Assistant clinical experience required
  • Minimum two years Electronic Medical Record (EMR) user required
  • Minimum one-year EPIC EMR platform experience required
  • Minimum one-year EPIC Super User/Champion experience preferred, or training completed within 90 days of hire
  • Preceptor, mentoring, and leadership training required within 90 days of hire and annually via LLUH Staff Development and other educational venues as appropriate
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of outpatient clinic front office and back office practices and policies
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) user required
  • Able to keyboard up to 40 wpm
  • Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position
  • Operate/troubleshoot basic office/patient care equipment required for the position
  • Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction
  • Provides leadership abilities via example, communication, and professionalism
  • Communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision
  • Distinguish colors and smell as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone or other electronic mode
  • Identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position; discern temperature variances through touch necessary for patient care
Licensures and Certifications:
  • Clinical Medical Assistant (MA) certificate required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)- Provider Course certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred
  • Valid/current unrestricted California Driver's License required
  • Proof of valid/current auto insurance required
