Your Role

We are seeking a Research Vivarium Husbandry Specialist to join our team at our Cambridge, MA facility. In this role, you will be responsible for observing, monitoring and documenting the health and physical environment within the animal facility, as well as performing animal care and husbandry duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and comply with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to laboratory animals for research.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility.
  • Perform health observations and animal husbandry duties to maintain quality of health of research animals.
  • Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility veterinarian.
  • Perform humane euthanasia.
  • Receive, inspect, and put away incoming animals; ensure and provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.
  • Maintain and follow breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels.
  • Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility.
  • AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) within 18 months of hire.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, Biology or Biological Science preferred.
