Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Dispatcher to join our team at the California Highway Patrol. As a key member of our emergency response team, you will be responsible for operating radio consoles, answering 9-1-1 calls, and documenting information using a computer-aided dispatch system.

About the Role

This is a critical position that requires exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. You will be working closely with officers in the field, providing vital information and support to ensure public safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate radio consoles to receive and transmit critical information during emergency situations
  • Answer 9-1-1 calls, allied agency calls, and general public telephone lines using the Vesta telephone system
  • Document information from calls and/or officers in the field using a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system
Working Conditions

You will be working in a dynamic environment, requiring flexibility and adaptability. Our dispatch center operates on a 3/12 alternate workweek schedule, with seniority shift and vacation sign-up.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed requirement
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, with completion of coursework in English, mathematics, social sciences, or other relevant subjects
  • Ability to pass a background investigation, medical clearance, and psychological evaluation prior to hiring
