About the Role

The VCU Health - MCV Physicians is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Director/Leader for the Sickle Cell Disease Program in the Department of Internal Medicine. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the clinical care of patients with sickle cell disease, managing a team of 15-18 staff members, and participating in governmental partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Education: As a faculty member, you will be responsible for training medical students, residents, and fellows in the field of sickle cell disease.
  • Research: You will be expected to bring innovative clinical trials in sickle cell disease to VCU and the region, establishing partnerships with external organizations to offer cutting-edge treatments to patients.
  • Service: You will be active in reducing health disparities in the community served by VCU.
  • Clinical Care: You will provide care for patients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on sickle cell disease and attend on the inpatient wards and/or consult service.
  • Administrative: As Medical Director, you will oversee all clinical care, manage staff, participate in governmental partnerships, and represent VCU nationally in sickle cell disease efforts.
Requirements
  • Board certified or eligible in hematology
  • Eligible for Virginia medical license
  • Evidence of accomplishment/potential during medical school, residency, fellowship, and/or early academic career
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
