Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Director/Leader to oversee the Sickle Cell Disease Program at VCU Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of healthcare professionals, managing clinical care, and participating in governmental partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Education: Provide clinical research opportunities to fellows and train medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Research: Bring innovative clinical trials in sickle cell disease to VCU and the region, establishing extramural partnerships to offer cutting-edge treatments.
  • Service: Actively participate in decreasing health disparities in the community served by VCU.
  • Clinical: Provide care for patients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on sickle cell disease and attend on the inpatient wards and/or consult service.
  • Administrative: Oversee all clinical care, manage staff, participate in governmental partnerships, and represent VCU nationally.
Requirements
  • Board certified or eligible in hematology.
  • Eligible for Virginia medical license.
  • Evidence of accomplishment/potential during medical school, residency, fellowship, and/or early academic career.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
