Pediatric Acute Care Physician Assistant - Congenital Heart Surgery Position Overview:


Are you dedicated to providing exceptional care for children and families impacted by congenital heart conditions? The Children's Heart Institute is seeking an Acute Care Pediatric Physician Assistant to enhance our Pediatric and Congenital Heart surgery team.

Your primary role will be to deliver advanced clinical care and guidance to patients and their families, as well as the ancillary care team, focusing on both pre-operative and post-operative management.

This position encompasses patient interactions in an outpatient clinic environment, alongside managing post-operative care and addressing concerns in an acute care setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct complex, standardized patient care procedures requiring specialized training, typically performed by a physician, without constituting the practice of medicine.
  • Perform independent and physician-supervised rounding on the unit.
  • Conduct patient evaluations and assessments, providing appropriate treatment, including monitoring and prescribing medications.
  • Coordinate, direct, and implement the patient's care plan.
  • Assist in gathering patient histories, screening for co-morbidities, and offering guidance on preventative healthcare.
  • Perform physical examinations and provide episodic or problem-oriented care under physician supervision.
  • Order and interpret laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic tests.
  • Monitor the patient's treatment program and communicate relevant medical information to the attending physician.
  • Facilitate patient education regarding medical processes, medications, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Assist physicians in making therapeutic decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare documentation for physician review.
  • Prepare and manage supplies and equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Operate within the scope of practice defined by licensure and certification.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Current Texas Licensure as a Physician Assistant
  • Certification from the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or specialty certification as required by the department
  • Proficiency in the use of medical and surgical instruments and equipment relevant to the role

Education:
Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience.

Experience:
No prior experience required; however, previous experience in the clinical focus area is preferred.

Physical Requirements:


Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
