PRIMARY DUTIES:

Patient Registration:
Verify insurance details for patients referred for treatment. Conduct interviews with patients or their relatives to gather essential information and confirm insurance coverage. Accurately input data into the computer system and prepare billing documentation.

Patient Census Management:
Compile and reconcile daily statistics for both outpatient and inpatient services, updating reports as necessary.

Financial Guidance:
Assess patient financial responsibilities and offer payment options to patients and their authorized family members upon admission. Establish payment plans for self-paying patients and process payments as required. Record transactions in the online payment system.

Daily Discharge Processing:
Ensure billing packets are complete and properly scanned and indexed in the document management system.

Correspondence Management:
Handle all incoming mail related to the Business Office, documenting authorizations, denials, and explanation of benefits. Scan documents into the system and organize them in the monthly Business Office folder.

Deposit Preparation:
Prepare deposits for cash or checks received at the facility.

Refund Processing:
Review accounts receivable for overpayments and, if applicable, initiate refunds for patients or insurance providers.

Claim Inquiries:
Address all inquiries from the Central Business Office regarding claim resolutions promptly.

Reporting:
Extract reports from the information system and format them appropriately for review.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A minimum of two years of experience in healthcare is preferred.

Familiarity with CPT/ICD-10 coding is advantageous.

Proven understanding of medical terminology and insurance billing processes.

Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) must be obtained within 60 days of employment.

Skills and Competencies:
Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.

Proficient in using software and equipment, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Excellent organizational abilities with the capacity to prioritize tasks, work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds and educational levels.

Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.

Sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to:

Utilize standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.

Use a computer keyboard with manual dexterity and sufficient speed for repetitive tasks over extended periods.

Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner that is clear and understandable to a diverse audience.

Follow verbal and written instructions with precision and attention to detail.

Execute complex mental functions and basic arithmetic; interpret complex regulations and policies; collect, analyze, and interpret intricate data.

Reach in various directions and maintain a seated or standing position for extended periods.

Lift up to 30 pounds and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 30 pounds frequently.
