GENERAL SUMMARY:


The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for conducting both routine and advanced laboratory tests on clinical samples across various laboratory sections.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Execute a range of standard and intricate procedures utilizing established protocols to deliver accurate clinical data. Ensure the verification of analytical accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and linearity for testing methodologies. (40%)

2. Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments. Identify quality control issues and take necessary actions to uphold the integrity of clinical information. (30%)

3. Provide guidance and mentorship to laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, students, and new staff, ensuring adherence to system policies and state regulations for accuracy and quality. (20%)

4. Act as a resource for medical laboratory technicians and other healthcare professionals as needed. Engage in ongoing education to promote professional growth and laboratory advancement. (5%)

5. May be involved in the collection and processing of patient specimens in accordance with laboratory protocols and timelines. (5%)

6. Perform additional tasks as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum

Bachelor's degree in an ASCP eligible program.

If located in Pennsylvania:
MLS, MT, Categorical, or Specialty ASCP Certification is required within one year of employment. Current employees in the role as of June 1, 2022, are exempt from this requirement.

Preferred

1 to 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

If located in New York:
Clinical Laboratory or Limited Clinical Laboratory Technologist certification.
