We are currently in search of candidates willing to work overnight shifts, including rotating weekends and holiday duties.

Role Purpose:

In this position, you will hold authority, responsibility, and accountability for the precise execution of laboratory tests of both routine and advanced nature. These assessments are crucial for diagnosing and treating patients and evaluating their response to treatment. Utilize your clinical expertise to ensure accurate clinical testing, leading to quality patient care outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned.
  • Comply with established laboratory and hospital protocols regarding procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, compliance, and personnel policies. Follow set procedures for specimen collection (including phlebotomy, as necessary) and processing for analysis, ensuring sample appropriateness and stability. Conduct qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures according to established protocols with precision and efficiency.
  • All responsibilities of a Medical Lab Technician, plus:
  • Assume temporary first-line supervision of the section/department as delegated.
  • Assist with test development and methodology/equipment evaluation, selection, and implementation.
  • Engage with all laboratory clients courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments, along with their interrelationships and physiological conditions affecting test results.
  • Operate and maintain equipment within the scope of training, adhering to defined schedules and written instructions for quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs and utilize reagents and supplies efficiently; monitor and maintain an adequate supply inventory.
  • Conduct High Complexity Testing (as defined by PA DOH) without direct supervision.
  • Identify critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follow up according to established protocols. Recognize factors affecting measurements and results, initiating necessary corrective actions as per established protocols. Identify issues with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and take action as outlined in predetermined protocols.
  • Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as applicable and assigned.

Qualifications for Medical Laboratory Scientist:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program,
  • OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification,
  • OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory,
  • OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 and PA Bureau of Laboratories for technologists performing high complexity testing. Preferably, 1-year experience in a hospital laboratory.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems is preferred.

Qualifications for Medical Lab Technician:

  • Associate degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as either a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA),
  • OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent certification,
  • OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science,
  • OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing,
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital laboratory is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems is preferred.

Licensures, Certifications, and Clearances:

Required:

· Act 34

Preferred - ASCP Certification:

  • Medical Technologist MT(ASCP),
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS (ASCP),
  • Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP),
  • Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA), or equivalent certification preferred.
