Job Summary

The Texas General Land Office is seeking a highly skilled auditor to join our Energy Resources program area. As an auditor, you will be responsible for examining, investigating, and reviewing records related to energy resources, including production, allocation, and sales documents, as well as conducting audits to ensure royalties paid to the State accounts for oil and gas produced on State lands adhere to lease agreements, statutes, rules, and contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform moderately complex auditing work, including examining and reviewing records, conducting audits, and preparing audit reports.
  • Research and reconcile various accounts related to energy resources, including lease compliance and royalty payments.
  • Develop and implement audit plans, techniques, and procedures to ensure efficient and effective use of time.
  • Assist companies with their royalty reporting and payments using the online Royalty Reporting and Control system (RRAC).

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, geology, petroleum engineering, or a related field.
  • One year of progressive experience in governmental, financial, program area, organizational performance, policy, and/or compliance audits.
  • Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in business or accounting, three years of full-time progressive experience, and certification in auditing or a related field.

Working Conditions

This position requires the employee to primarily perform sedentary office work, with mobility required to carry out some duties. The individual must be able to move and transport records, documents, boxes, and related information and materials, weighing up to 20 pounds when required.
